The premise // 02

The future is
still unwritten.

In a time of rising authoritarianism, growing inequality, and relentless disinformation, these salons bring together voices from across movements, borders, and generations to explore solutions, build connections, and imagine what comes next.

Open Society, Closed Borders

The next Democracy Salon brings Adam Gurri, Co-Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Liberal Currents, into the room on Thursday, October 8th at 12PM ET / 6PM CET.

Liberal democracies were built on the promise of openness: free movement of people, ideas, and trade. So why do they keep pulling up the drawbridge? From border walls and mass deportations to tariffs and “national renewal,” the instinct to close ranks is shaping politics on both sides of the Atlantic. Adam joins DemCon Founder Hunter Christopher to ask where that impulse comes from, what it costs us, and what a confident, open democracy could look like instead.
